Himura Kenshin
Kenshin was Battousai the Manslayer during the Tokugawa period but disappeared as the regime fell. He resurfaced during the Meiji Restoration, when he met Kaoru and decided to settle down for awhile. Kenshin has given up his killing ways to live a life of peace, and therefore fights with his blade on the wrong side.
Kamiya Kaoru
Kaoru met Kenshin when she went after a man who called himself Battousai the Manslayer of her father's style of martial arts, set on destroying her father's reputation. When he helped her, she invited him to stay and help her rebuild the style. She is particularly violent to Kenshin... a sign she likes him, I suppose.
Myojin Yahiko
Yahiko was orphened at a young age and sold into slavery to pay off the debts of his mother's medical bills. When Kaoru heard about how he had to steal to support himself within the band of thieves he lived with, she would have none of it and stormed in to free him. Luckily, Kenshin wasn't far behind, and soon Yahiko became a student of Kaoru's. He's a fiesty boy who wants to be able to take care of himself without relying on others for support. He also has a great sense of family pride, as his father was a samurai. Kenshin says if times hadn't changed, he, too, would have made a fine samurai.
